HOMILY/MEDITATION FOR FRIDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF EASTER 12TH APRIL 2024

Acts 5:34-42; Ps.27; John 6:1-15

Remain with the Lord

As the angry men in council deliberated on how best to deal with the apostles for defiling their orders, Gamaliel offered a piece of advice that remains valid till this day. His position can be summarized as: whatever is not of God will not stand the test of time; whatever is of God is unstoppable. Know this and know peace!

Whatever is not of God, irrespective of the blossoming it experiences, the attractiveness is ensues, the pleasure it gives, it is bound to end is disarray. On the other hand, whatever is of God, irrespective of the oppression melted against it, no matter how unpopular and unattractive it may be, it is bound to stand the test of time. Beloved, the point here is that only God can give true life; so, only what is connected to God truly survives.

This truth was demonstrated in the gospel reading of today. The multitude connected themselves to Jesus by remaining with him and listening to him. Without been asked, Jesus perceived a mere threat to their bodily comfort (hunger), and he provided. Beloved, many things may happen to us by way of temptation, if we remain with the Lord; but death is surely not one of them. Those who live in the Lord never truly die. This is what we celebrate in this season of Easter. Many comforts may come to us even when we leave the Lord, but surely true life is not one of them.

Many of us are seeking for life where it cannot be found; many things/persons promise us life by taking us away from Jesus. My dear, it will always end in premium tears. No matter how hard it may be, let us be resolved to stand with Jesus. No matter how much we are mocked for refusing to compromise on account of our faith in Jesus, let us not be dissuaded; we are on the right track.

The gifts of God are always like the mustard seed. At first, they are unassuming but they surely reveal their true worth with time. The feeding of the crowds in the gospel began with five barley loaves and two fish but ended with twelve filled basket left. Only the hand of God can do this if we remain with the Lord. For this reason the psalmist wisely declared that the only thing he ask of the Lord is to live in the house of the Lord. This is because, with the Lord, everything about us is automatically taken care in God’s time and according to God’s will. Beloved, in all you do and say, stay with the Lord.
