REFLECTION/HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK OF LENT MARCH 2023

Homily for Thursday of the 4th week of Lent

Exodus 32:7-14. Psalm 106:19-20,21-22,23. John 5:31-47.

"O Lord, remember us with the favour you show to your to your people" is our Responsorial Psalm today. Moses, in the first reading, pleaded with God for the people of Israel after they made a golden calf and began to worship.

God intended to destroy the people of Israel for this sin, but Moses pleaded on their behalf based on all the wonderful things God had done for them.

With Moses intercession, God did not punish the people of Israel as He had threatened to do. With Moses' intercession, we see the power of prayer and the mercy of God  that even after God had divorced Israel from himself by calling them "not my people," but "your people," all it takes is the prayer of Moses to restore and renew God's covenant with his people.

In today's Gospel, Jesus told the Jews that John the Baptist bore witness to the truth (Christ). We are called as Christians to bear witness to the truth (Christ) like John the Baptist.

We should bear witness to the truth always by not allowing ourselves to be carried away with worldly allurements because they will draw us away from keeping God's commandments, which are necessary for bearing witness to Jesus.

May God grant us the grace to always intercede for others and never permit us to draw back at any time from bearing witness to Jesus through Christ our Lord.
