HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 1ST WEEK OF ADVENT

Homily for Friday of the 1st Week of Advent

Isaiah 29:17-24; Matthew 9:27-31.

We have it in the prophecy of Isaiah in the First Reading that, "In that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see" (Isa.29:18). Prophet Isaiah speaks of the transformation that will take place at the Lord's coming.

This transformation that Prophet Isaiah saw I  the First Reading is reflected in today's through the healing of the two blind men who approached Jesus with faith in today's Gospel.

Though they were blind physically but they had spiritual sight which is proved in the way they approached Jesus. They cried out aloud, "Have mercy on us, Son of David" (Matt.9:27). Many had physical sight but did not recognise Jesus as the Son of David.

After addressing Jesus as the Son of David, Jesus demands more than their recognition of Him as the "Son of David". He demands faith from them and they expressed their faith in Him which led to their receiving back their sight.

How strong is my faith in Christ Jesus, the Saviour who is able to bring me healing and liberty from all that blinds me and binds me?  Our faith in God enables a miracle not because God is powerless without faith but because we acknowledge His power through it. Let us have faith in God and be healed of all our spiritual and physical blindness.

May God increase our faith through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Have a blessed day
