Homily for Friday of the 34th week in ordinary time year II

Homily for Friday. Thirty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Revelation 20:1-4,11---21:2; Luke 21:29-33.

In the First Reading, it is consoling to know that the Devil is bound, thrown into the pit and sealed up, so that he can no more deceive humanity to sin. On the other hand, our attention is drawn to the fact that after our earthly sojourn we shall be judged by our deeds and be rewarded accordingly. "And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done" (Rev.20:12) "and all were judged by what they had done" (Rev.20:13).

This is a reminder for us to examine the way we live on daily basis, keeping in mind the four last things -- death, judgment, heaven or hell.

In today's Gospel, our Lord Jesus Christ advises us to use the same knowledge pattern we use to determine the changes of weather and season to also determine God's presence and His Kingdom in our midst and to know the importance of Christ's words, He tells us that "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my (Christ's) words will not pass away" (Luke 21:33).

If we want to see far into eternity. We must accept God's word and put them into practice. Heaven and earth will surely pass away, but Jesus' words will not pass away. Jesus tells us that all that seems to be enduring and unchangeable to us is not really so. God's word is eternal. If we allow God's word to be our guiding principles, then our names will be written in the book of life according to the teachings of the First Reading.

As we hear God's word daily, may these words be put into practice and at end of our earthly sojourn gain eternal life through Christ our Lord. Amen.

God bless you
