HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR II

Eph.3:14-21; Luke 12:49-53

In the first reading of today, St Paul offers to God a prayer point that we should all make our own prayer point today. Which is that God may grant us the grace to comprehend the love of Christ for all humanity.  A sacrificial love that surpasses every other love.

Comprehending this great love of God, we will come to the resolution that we will not live for ourselves anymore but rather for Christ Jesus. Our lives, going forward, should be a reciprocity for the love of Christ Jesus to us.

In the Gospel reading of today, dearest brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus divulges the purpose of his mission for the whole earth, which is a mission of renewal and transformation through baptism. A renewal that will be comprehensive and profound; leaving no situation unattended.

Jesus declared to his disciples, "I came to cast fire upon the earth"  (Luke 12:49). One may ask: How can Jesus the Prince of peace bring fire upon the earth? Jesus means to say the His Gospel of peace brings warfare in the soul. It cuts through old habits; it opposes sin and error.

Today, there are many people who have been rejected by their families and friends on account of the Gospel. There are friends who no longer relate on account of the Gospel. Christ must come first. It is better to count everything, be it family or friend as secondary, in order that we may gain Christ and be found in Him (Phil.3:8). May families and friends never be obstacles in our relationship with Jesus through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Have a wonderful day
